The Board of Water Commissioners oversees the operation and budget of the Water Department. Three commissioners are elected to staggered three-year terms in the annual election each year. Board meetings are held monthly on the first Tuesday at 4:30 in the Water Department office.
About the Board
David Jones: David was first elected to the Board of Water Commissioners May 2007 and elected Chair of the Board of Commissioners May 2011. Current term expires April, 2013. Commissioner Jones also serves as the Treasurer and Director on the Board of Directors of Barnstable Youth Hockey Association. He is the Principal Division Assistant for Barnstable Golf with an office at Hyannis Golf Course. Previously he served for twenty years as a call firefighter with the Barnstable Fire Department retiring with the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. He lives in Barnstable with his wife Debra and their twin boys.
Evelyn Bassett: Evelyn was first elected to the Board of Water Commissioners May 2000. Served as Chair for 3 years. Current term expires April 2015. Commissioner Bassett also serves on the Boards of Directors for the Barnstable Civic Assoc. and the Friends of the Schoolhouse. She is a past Board member of Tales of Cape Cod. She is an active volunteer with Elder Services and with CapeAbilities. Commissioner Bassett is a stylist at Cut-Ups Beauty Salon in South Yarmouth. She lives in Barnstable Village with her husband, Wayne. They have two adult children, both living on the Cape.
Steve Whitmore: Steve was first elected to the Board of Water Commissioners May 2011. Current term expires April 2014. Commissioner Whitmore also serves as a Commissioner on the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission and a member of the Town of Barnstable Personnel Advisory Board. He is a retired attorney and lives in Barnstable Village with his realtor wife, Sue Angus.
