About The Barnstable Fire Department
The Barnstable Fire Department was formed in 1935 and services the residents and visitors of the Barnstable Fire District. The district, one of five within the town of Barnstable, is located on the north coast of the town on scenic Cape Cod Bay. We service an area of approximately fourteen square miles and a resident population of approximately 5500. The vast majority of Independence Park, the industrial area of town, is located within the district. Such companies as Cape Cod Potato Chips, Shepley Wood Products, The Home Depot and BJ’s Wholesale Club call Independence Park home. Barnstable is also the seat for the County of Barnstable and is the home for three court houses.
The Barnstable Fire Department operates one station, known as station 1. The station is located on scenic Route 6A in the heart of the village. Fire Department dispatching is done by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. This office dispatches for the fire departments of Barnstable, West Barnstable, Mashpee, Bourne, Orleans, and Brewster. They also provide mutual aid dispatching for all departments in Barnstable County and can coordinate communications with practically any agency in the world. In addition all ambulance communications with area hospitals are coordinated through Barnstable CMED, part of this agency. They provide communications for the Sheriffs Office and all local police departments in Barnstable county. All of this is done from the Police Service Center located in the Massachusetts Military Reservation.
